Snappi not Snappy? Here are some tips & tricks.
Posted by THE CLOTH STASH
Hmmm those tricky snappi fasteners just don't seem to like preflats. Here are a few tips & tricks to try if you are struggling to make them work:
Snappi Tips:
Try filing that snappi (carefully!). Gently file the snappi prongs to help sharpen them enough to catch the preflat fabric.
Try attaching the snappi sideways to help get a better grip.
Try overextending the snappi when fitting. The extra tension can help those prongs catch better.
Switch to Nappy Pins instead:
Pinch the top of the fabric and only go through the top couple of layers. This is all you need to secure the pin. Because preflats are often made with high GSM fabric, the fibres are tight, so digging through all the layers makes it too difficult to secure.
General Tips:
Avoid drying preflats in the dryer - not sure why (must be a good scientific reason) but the fibres are just a little more grippy when line dried.
If all else fails try the TUCK METHOD. Tuck the wings in underneath the fabric to secure the preflat. This takes a bit of practice but it is very effective.
Sending a big thanks to Britt from Cloth Bums who passed on a few of these tips & tricks, after all, she does have extension experience in preflats!
