Cheap & Cheerful Nappies: Under $20/ nappy (including inserts)

Cloth can be done on a budget! In this price category you will find some fantastic everyday nappies. The very popular Alva Baby Nappies are an example of dependable nappies you can buy for cheap!

Pros: Perfect for sending to childcare so you don't have to worry about your expensive nappies being mistreated or lost. If you have a tight budget then these nappies really can last the distance and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having nothing else in your stash! Often nappies in this price category are both designed and manufactured overseas. Their designs don't tend to be updated regularly so if you are after consistency and want to add more of the same when you add to your brood, then the chances are they will still be available 2 years or so down the track.

Cons: Cheaper nappies often come with microfiber or microfiber/bamboo blended inserts. While microfiber is wonderful for soaking up those liquids fast, they do not hold as much liquid as bamboo/ hemp fabrics and are therefore less absorbent. Deending on the brand and their insert material & thickness, these nappies may require additional inserts on top of the inserts that come with the nappies. If you're all about appearances, these nappies tend to pill more than the more expensive nappies that use higher quality fabrics so they don't look as new for as long....but they are definitely still functional! It can also be hard to find a trimmer nappy in this price category as most nappies that are this cheap are really just re-branded Alva Baby nappies and these are on the larger side of the one size fits most (OSFM) size range and often their inserts are bulkier given the addition of the microfiber layers.

Mid-Range Nappies: Between $20 - $30/ nappy (including inserts)

For this price, the nappies should come with sufficient inserts to handle your absorption requirements so that you don't have to purchase additional inserts separately (unless you have a heavy wetter!).

Pros: Within this price range you will start to find some Australian designed nappies so if you are wanting to support a small Aussie business but still keen to keep the costs low, then this price category is for you! Baby Bare nappies & Cloth Bums nappies are exceptional quality and you can find them in this price range.

There are some nice trim nappies in this category...perfect for fitting under those cute little outfits! In this price range you should expect a higher quality of fabrics & the design of the nappy should be a a little more considered than just your standard pocket nappy with rectangular inserts.

Cons: Really, the only downside in this category is the limited range!

Designer Nappies: Over $30/ nappy (including inserts)

Nothing more to add here....very similar to what is currently available in the mid-range category. These nappies just have the added attention to detail that you won't find in the cheap & cheerful range. Again, at this price, the nappies should come with sufficient inserts to handle your absorption requirements so that you don't have to purchase additional inserts separately (unless you have a particularly heavy wetter!).

Pros: Within this price range you will start to find most nappies are Australian designed nappies so if you are wanting to support a small to medium Aussie business then this price category is for you! There is such a wide range in this category so whatever "must have" feature you are after, you are sure to find it in this price range!

Cons: If you don't take the time to investigate which nappy works best for your little bub before purchasing a stash full of designer nappies, then you may have wasted more money than you needed to! We highly recommend trying before you buy if you want to go designer....as now even the second hand cloth nappy market is flooded, so moving your unwanted nappies on can be time consuming and you won't get back anywhere near the $$$ you forked for them.
